Teal Pumpkin Project (in five minutes)

Halloween is around the corner, and one trend that we are all in for is

TEAL PUMPKIN PROJECT!

By participating, you allow children with food allergies who can't accept candy treats to experience all the fun of trick-or-treating!

Teal Pumpkin Project was inspired by a local awareness activity run by the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee.

You can find out more about this project here.

This craft is very simple. What you will need: -pumpkin

-wet paper towel

-paint brush

-teal acrylic paint

-teal glitter

{I apologize, I was so excited about this craft I didn't take pictures! Please follow along with the instructions below}

~Once you have picked your perfect pumpkin from the patch, wipe it down with a damp paper towel and let air dry.

~Place the pumpkin on a sheet of newspaper or outside (unless you want the glitter to haunt you long after October 31st)

~Pour out teal paint into your palette. I mixed my "perfect shade" of teal from a few different colors. If you do this, make sure to make enough paint in the first batch to cover the entire pumpkin, to avoid having a different shade if you need to reapply paint.

~With even strokes, apply the paint onto the pumpkin up and down. Make sure to paint inside the creases of the pumpkin.

~While the paint is still wet, apply the glitter, tapping gently along the top of the pumpkin in a circular motion. Next, while gently holding the stem, angle the pumpkin to apply glitter to the rest of the pumpkin. Be careful not to accidentally scrape the wet paint off of the pumpkin. Don't lay it on it's side, but instead swivel it from the base to get even coverage.

Once the paint and glitter have dried, paint and glitter the stem.

Viola! Simply leave the pumpkin on your porch or attach a sign to let trick or treaters know that you have allergy-free treats!

Your trick-or-treaters will be so excited to receive their spooky goodie bags! I filled mine with pencils, erasers, spider rings, stickers, bubbles, and other festive treats.

Happy Haunting!
